Gorges de Chailles canyoning
Carved out by the Guiers river flow ing down from the Chartreuse peaks, this canyon is open from June to October. This is one of the Chartreuse’ s longest canyons (approx. 4 hours). The descent of the Gorges de Chailles is a unique adventure , not unlike other canyoning trips in Grenoble.
Can be enjoyed in years with very hot, dry summers, canyoning in the Gorges de Chailles is sure to refresh you and leave you with unforgettable memories!
On this particularly aquatic descent, you’ll discover huge reaches, intense abseils, natural rock bridges several metres high, punctuated by numerous jumps…
In the Gorges de Chailles, you’ll discover one of the region’s largest siphons, an impressive sight that we’ll confine ourselves to looking at because it’s too long and too deep.

A 1/2 day in the most aquatic canyon in the Chartreuse massif, the Gorges de Chailles canyon!
Once you have made your choice on our website Terra Nova Canyoning among the 11 canyons we offer, you have chosen the gorges de Chailles canyon.
The time of year to do this canyon is always tricky to find, as conditions are often right in the middle of summer. You need to have a good level of swimming to descend this canyon, and after your booking we will contact you to discuss this with you and make sure that this canyon corresponds to your expectations.
If everything is ok, we will send you an e-mail containing all the information you need to send us back your height and weight.
Meet us on the day to discover the Gorges de Chailles canyon. You’ll have no trouble finding your instructor, thanks to the GPS point we’ve provided.
After getting equipped and discussing your experience, we’ll take the cars back to set up the long shuttle, which avoids a very long walk back.
The canyon begins with a steep descent to the bottom of the gorge, where the instructor will explain safety and the various obstacles you’ll encounter, as well as giving a more precise explanation of water movement and whitewater swimming.
And off you go, with your instructor into this immense gorge, alternating between jumps, abseiling and swimming.
Passing through thenatural arch is the highlight of the Gorges de Chailles canyon, and it’s also a great photo opportunity.
Don’t worry, we’ll send you the photos as soon as the canyon is over.
After a long swim in a 400m reach, we’ll reach the exit and in a 20 min walk we’ll reach the car left at the bottom.
We’ll either de-equip or pick up the cars left at the top of the gorges de Chailles canyon.
During the trip we’ll be able to chat about other descents in the area, such as the easier Canyon du Grenant or the more vertical Canyon de l’Infernet closer to Grenoble.
As soon as you’ve collected your car, you’ll be free to go. After this intense 1/2 day, we suggest you go and enjoy some tapas and cocktails at the Cuzco bar in Saint Béron, a great Peruvian-inspired bar.
