Description Canyon du Grenant, Chambéry, Chartreuse, Savoie
We describe the Grenant canyon, located close to Lac d’Aiguebellette and Paladru.
Only 25 minutes from Chambéry, this canyon is a series of obstacles ideal for discovery and outings with friends. Obstacle-by-obstacle descriptions may vary from year to year.
The Grenant canyon is made up of almost 3 sections, allowing everyone to discover it
The full descent of the Grenant canyon consists of covering all 3 sections and lasts around 3 hours.
It is possible to start the canyon a little below the starting point, which makes it possible to offer a slightly longer canyon while keeping the main obstacles.
Finally, leaving the footbridge, you discover a canyon ideal for children, with a magnificent slide and several jumps.
This canyon is located 25 minutes from Chambéry and 45 minutes from Lyon.
Description of the Grenand canyon descent
The meeting point is at the parking lot behind the post office in the small village of La Bridoire.
We will equip ourselves at this parking lot and depending on the version of the Grenant canyon chosen, we will either set off on foot or take your cars to get to the departure parking lot in the direction of Attignat-Oncin.

The canyon du grenant starts quietly with 2 small slides that allow you to get into the swing of things, followed by a short 3-minute walk to a 3m slide that precedes a small 50cm jump! Next comes the 6m jump, which can be abseiled, then a short river walk leads to an 8m abseil, which can be descended in the active section using either the classic method or the abseil slide. Just after this, a narrow slide leads to a basin, from which you can exit by passing under a rock – a fun little secret passage! We arrive at the 1st escape route, which is also where you can enter on foot from the parking lot below.
The second part of the Grenant canyon begins immediately with a long corridor featuring small slides and a few small jumps. Be careful, the pools are traps and there’s a lot of rock at the bottom of the pools, so you always have to probe! Then comes a 3m jump, an opportunity to take some nice photos so that you can keep a souvenir of the Grenant canyon.
We arrive at the start of the big ejectable slide.

The next waterfall is also 15m long, and from the handrail you have two options: a right-bank abseil or a left-bank abseil.
The left-bank abseil is a toboggan abseil: the first few metres are abseiled, then you sit on your back and let go of the rope to go tobogganing. The right abseil allows you to stop on a small step 4m above the surface of the water and jump off. You arrive in a basin where you can climb back up to make jumps at different heights: 2 meters, 4 meters, 7 meters and 8 meters, so there’s something for everyone in this Versoud canyon.
A short walk brings us to a small slide and the last abseil of the canyon du Versoud but not to the last obstacle, as this abseil offers a magnificent view of the stone bridge overlooking the canyon. The abseil begins with a small handrail, where the instructor demonstrated his mastery of the activity during its installation. All joking aside, the handrail is not at all difficult, but leads to a spider-wire abseil and the descent to the foot of the waterfall. It’s also possible to climb the right bank using the same technique.
The next obstacle is undoubtedly the most fun: a zip line that allows you to jump from the top of the 5-metre waterfall into the water. It’s also possible to abseil down the right or left bank, but it’s much less fun.
We then come to a crossroads that overlooks the last obstacle in the canyon du Versoud.
A chatière is a more or less tight passage under the rock, but don’t worry, the one in the Versoud canyon is easy and wide, and can be bypassed.

This brings us to the last zip-line slide, where the instructor has a few surprises in store for you. The Tyrolean traverse makes your arrival in the water safer, by avoiding the small step under the water at the finish.
This brings us to the last zip-line slide, where the instructor has a few surprises in store for you.
A 5-minute walk will take us to the parking lot at canyon du Versoudon the way back you can contemplate the 100m waterfall, rarely in water, which is lowered in the spring
The 1/2 day is over.
